Biography Edit

Heath volunteered the United States Army Paratroopers in the summer of 1942, being assigned to the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Camp Toccoa, Georgia and receiving training there. In the fall of 1943, his unit shipped out to England, where is prepared for the upcoming invasion of France. His unit continued to train in special tactics until May 1944, when his unit was placed in a staging area in Southern England.

On the evening of June 5, 1944, Heath and Private Martin parachuted into France ahead of the main invasion force as pathfinders. Heath carried a Eureka beacon to guide in the awaiting fleet of C-47's carrying the remainder of 1st Battalion, 506th. He and Martin landed on the outskirts of Ste. Mere-Eglise; however, he died in the drop. Martin proceeded to retrieve the beacon Heath was carrying and complete the mission.
